If you’re a beer lover, then the 17th Annual Holiday Ale Festival in Portland, Oregon, is the place to be. Running from Wednesday, November 28, to Sunday, December 2, the 2012 Holiday Ale Festival features more than 50 winter ales created just for the event.

With fun seasonal names such as Papa Noel’s Special Reserve, Figgy Pudding, Brrrbon Vanilla, and Frosty’s Revenge, these specially-crafted brews have flavors and notes reminiscent of the holidays. Guests 21-years-old and up can attend the festival, taste the beers, and get into the holiday spirit.

Location and Hours

The 2012 Holiday Ale Festival will take place at Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland. Visitors to the city can find this at 701 SW Sixth Avenue, in between Morrison and Yamhill streets.

  • Wednesday, November 28: noon to 10:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, November 29: 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Friday, November 30: 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 1: 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 2: 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Admission and Costs

To take part in the festival, you’ll need to purchase an initial tasting package for $30. The package includes a 2012 festival souvenir mug and 10 beer tickets. Once you’ve paid for the initial tasting package, you are allowed to come back to the festival during the remaining days free of charge, as long as you bring your wristband and 2012 festival mug.

To taste the different brews, you’ll use your beer tickets. A 4-ounce taster pour of beer requires one ticket, unless it’s one of the few limited release brews that need two tickets. To fill your mug with 14 ounces of beer, you’ll need to use four tickets, or sometimes more tickets depending on the type of beer. If you run out of tickets, you can purchase more for $1 each.
