The 2012 Holiday Ale Festival will take place at Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland. Visitors to the city can find this at 701 SW Sixth Avenue, in between Morrison and Yamhill streets.

• Sunday, December 2: 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Admission and Costs

To take part in the festival, you’ll need to purchase an initial tasting package for $30. The package includes a 2012 festival souvenir mug and 10 beer tickets. Once you’ve paid for the initial tasting package, you are allowed to come back to the festival during the remaining days free of charge, as long as you bring your wristband and 2012 festival mug.

To taste the different brews, you’ll use your beer tickets. A 4-ounce taster pour of beer requires one ticket, unless it’s one of the few limited release brews that need two tickets. To fill your mug with 14 ounces of beer, you’ll need to use four tickets, or sometimes more tickets depending on the type of beer. If you run out of tickets, you can purchase more for $1 each.

You’ll find Nostrana at 1401 SE Morrison Street in the Buckman Neighborhood in Portland. The restaurant is open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The restaurant’s dinner hours are from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Happy hour at Nostrana is offered daily after 9:00 p.m.

Menu

The menus at Nostrana can vary from day to day. While you may not know what dishes will be on the menu in advance, you can always be sure that the offerings will be appetizing and interesting.

On the dinner menu, you’ll find a variety of appetizers or antipasti, several options for the first course, including salads and pasta dishes, and various meat and fish dishes for the second course. You can also choose from pizzas, sides and vegetables, and cheeses.

Accompanying the dinner menu is a large selection of wines from Italy as well as from Oregon. Most of the wine is served by the bottle, but there are numerous options that are served by the glass as well. Be sure to save room for dessert; you can try sweets such as butterscotch budino, or pudding, and panna cotta with boysenberry preserves.

Opening Night Party

The first event of the 2012 Portland Architecture and Design Festival is the Opening Night Party. The party will take place on Thursday, September 27, 2012, starting at 4:30 p.m. The general public is welcome to attend this party, which will preview the upcoming events of the festival and celebrate the hard work that’s gone into preparing for the festival.

Home Tour

Another great festival event that you can attend is Design Matters: A Tour of Exceptional Portland Homes. On the home tour, you’ll see seven residential homes throughout the city that are architectural marvels and design spectacles.

The Design Matters home tour takes place on Saturday, October 13, 2012. It is a self-guided tour that lasts all day, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. When you purchase tickets, you’ll receive a map and driving directions to each home. Tickets for the home tour are $40 per person and are for sale online.

Omar’s Restaurant And Bar Menu

Omar’s Restaurant and Bar receives five deliveries of fish each week from both Oregon and worldwide fishing docks.  This ensures the freshest quality of fish. Try an Australian rock lobster tail or Alaskan red king crab. Your king crab will be one of the best pounds of steamed legs you’ll ever eat.

A seafood house favorite is the Tuscan seafood fettuccini. This comes with lobster, clams, mussels, shrimp, and scallops, and is served with portabella mushrooms, tomatoes, green onions and topped off with a tomato clam sauce.

The steak served at Omar’s Restaurant and Bar is hand cut and charbroiled, never frozen, and is US Choice Midwestern corn-fed beef. Additionally, the steaks are custom aged another 4-6 weeks to ensure full flavor and tenderness. Rest assured that none of the sauces or dressings have any MSG or other artificial ingredients. Steak entrees include the New York strip, top sirloin, petite top sirloin, filet mignon, and the one-pound rib-eye served with Omar’s steak sauce.

To Drink 

The wine list includes Oregon varietals such as the 2007 Abacela a Tempranillo Reserve from Umpqua Valley, OR, as well as wines from California like the 2009 Zinfandel from Ridge Vineyards in Geyerville, California. The list even features some of Europe’s finest such as the 2010 Borgo Conventi from Collio, Friuli, Italy.

The Dessert 

For dessert, try the signature Coupe Denmark. The warm Belgian bittersweet chocolate sauce drizzled over vanilla ice cream, with toasted almonds, whipped cream and a French rolled wafer would make a delicious ending to an unforgettable meal.
